(Rome = Yonhap News) Reporter Lim Hyeong-seop and Park Kyung-jun = President Moon Jae-in, who made an official visit to the Vatican, visited the Vatican on the morning of the 29th (local time).

President Moon was interviewed by a Vatican official, and shortly thereafter, he had an exclusive interview with Pope Francis.

It is the second time President Moon has visited the Vatican, after October 2018.

In particular, in this interview, the question of whether President Moon has requested Pope Francis to visit North Korea draws the most attention.

When President Moon proposed a visit to North Korea in 2018, the Pope said, “I can go when an official invitation from North Korea arrives.”

President Moon is seeking a breakthrough for resuming the peace process on the Korean Peninsula at the end of his term in office by proposing a declaration of an end to the war at the UN General Assembly in New York last month.

President Moon’s idea is that if the pope’s visit is successful, it could bring North Korea to the table of dialogue and provide an opportunity to advance inter-Korean dialogue and North Korea-U.S. nuclear negotiations.
