[Preview]Restrictions on cash rides on Sejong BRT routes from the 1st… Transportation card activation pilot operation

[sbn뉴스=세종] Reporter Lee Jeong-hyeon = From the 1st of next month, the Sejong BRT line will start a pilot operation for the activation of transportation cards, such as cash rides restricted from the 1st of next month.

Sejong City Transportation Corporation announced on the 31st that it will start a pilot operation from November 1 to limit cash rides on BRT routes (B0, B2, B5) and activate transportation cards in response to a sharp decrease in the cash use rate of bus passengers.

According to the Urban Transport Corporation, the number of bus fare payments in cash last year was about 2%, which is on a downward trend every year and is expected to drop further to about 1% this year.

It seems that various consumption payment methods have changed to contactless payment such as card use due to concerns about exposure of the infectious disease vector of Corona 19 due to the use of cash.

Accordingly, KAC plans to conduct a pilot operation of limiting cash rides on the BRT route for two months until the end of December this year, and to establish the activation of transportation cards through various publicity campaigns during the trial period.

In addition, from next year, fare boxes and coin dispensers will be removed, and fares will be paid only with transportation cards.

Currently, if you pay the bus fare with a transportation card, it is 100 won cheaper than cash.

Bae Jun-seok, president of Sejong City Transportation Corporation, said, “The restriction on cash rides and activation of transportation cards will reduce administrative costs and benefit from discount fares for citizens.
