‘Price Expectation Index’ highest in the past year, 77% of Seoul citizens use food delivery service

Seoul–(Newswire) March 28, 2022 — Seoul Research Institute (President Hyung-soo Park) announced the results of the survey ‘Consumer sentiment and delivery service usage in Seoul in the first quarter of 2022’ (Policy Report No. 345) did.

The ‘Consumer Attitude Index’*, which represents the economy of Seoul citizens, rose 0.3p from the previous quarter to 95.6 in the first quarter of 2022, showing an upward trend for four consecutive quarters, but the increase was decreased (consumer attitude index was A reading above 100 indicates a positive outlook for the economy or consumption spending; a reading below 100 indicates the opposite).

*Consumption self-reduction economy survey is the result of a quarterly survey of 1,200 households sampled in Seoul, and the sampling error is ±2.83%p at the 95% confidence level. The survey period for the first quarter of 2022 is from February 21 to February 25, 2022.

After the first quarter, the consumer attitude index of Seoul citizens is expected to be directly or indirectly affected by the recovery of daily life, employment conditions, consumer price inflation, and interest rate hikes.

The ‘current economic judgment index’, a component of the consumer attitude index, fell 5.9p from the previous quarter to 53.8, but the ‘future economic judgment index’ rose 10.5p to 97.4. One year later, as the reasons for the economic improvement in Seoul, ‘recovery of daily life due to the easing of COVID-19’ and ‘expectation after the election’ accounted for a high proportion.

The ‘Housing Buying Attitude Index’, which turned downward in the fourth quarter of 2021, continued a downward trend in the first quarter of 2022, and showed a decrease of -10.3p compared to the previous quarter to 46.4, while the extent of the decline greatly expanded.

The ‘Employment Situation Prospect Index’ recorded 91.7, a 6.1p increase from the previous quarter, and entered the 90’s, while the ‘Net Assets Index’ fell 2.8p. In the first quarter of 2022, the ‘Inflation Expectation Index’ was 149.6, a sharp increase from the previous quarter (16.7p), the highest in the past year. In particular, households with an annual household income of less than 24 million won rose 26.5p, the largest increase among all income groups.

Meanwhile, as a result of a survey on ‘delivery service usage’ of 1200 households in a sample of Seoul (1200 responses), more than 3/4 of Seoul citizens responded ‘have experience using food delivery service’ in the past three months. . In particular, it was found that 50.5% of those in their 60s, who had the least experience of using food delivery services, use food delivery services ‘3 to 5 times a month’.

The method of using food delivery service was found to be about 2.5 times higher than that of ‘delivery platform app/website’ at 86.3% (based on 1+2 rankings), followed by ‘phone order’ with 35.2%.

As a result of asking the reasons for not using the food delivery service, more than half (52.3%) of those who did not use the food delivery service in the past 3 months said ‘delivery food It was found that delivery was not used because of the economic burden caused by the increase in the price of delivery.

63.6% of Seoul citizens answered that the delivery fee they are willing to pay is 10% or less of the total order amount. More than half of the respondents answered that the appropriate delivery fee was ‘2,000 won or less’ (57.3%), and the highest level of delivery fee payable was found to be 3,608 won on average.
