Prime Minister Boo-gyeom Kim visits the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstration Center in Ulsan

Prime Minister Bu-gyeom Kim visited the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstration Center located in Ulsan Metropolitan City on October 29th. On this day’s visit, 2nd Vice Minister of Industry Park Ki-young, Ulsan City Administration Mayor Jang Su-wan, Ulsan TP President Kwon Su-yong, Doosan Fuel Cell Executive Director Moon Sang-jin, and Hyundai Motor Company’s Hydrogen Energy Business Promotion Team Leader Park Hoon-mo participated in the visit.

Ulsan Metropolitan City is a local government that is leading the hydrogen economy in Korea through the creation of a hydrogen pilot city, designation of a special zone for free regulation of hydrogen mobility, and integration of the hydrogen industry. This visit was made to check the progress of the hydrogen fuel cell new technology demonstration, to encourage the people involved, and to listen to the voices of the field.

Prime Minister Kim received a report on the status of the hydrogen fuel cell demonstration center project, inspected the site such as the fuel cell power plant and test and evaluation equipment, listened to difficulties, and reviewed the current status of hydrogen economy promotion such as hydrogen cars, hydrogen charging stations, and fuel cells in Ulsan city and 2030 They also discussed the direction of the world’s best hydrogen-leading city vision.

Prime Minister Kim said, “The hydrogen economy is a path we must take for 2050 carbon neutrality and creation of new future growth engines. Please play a role as a platform for technological innovation such as cooperation.”

“Ulsan City has excellent infrastructure for nurturing the hydrogen industry, such as the number 1 hydrogen production (820,000 tons) in Korea and the number 1 hydrogen pipeline network (185 km), and declared the 2030 vision to realize the world’s best hydrogen city (February 2019), We are leading the hydrogen economy through the enactment of the Industrial Promotion Ordinance (June 2020),” he said.

In particular, Prime Minister Kim emphasized, “We will hold the 4th Hydrogen Economy Committee as soon as possible and actively support the revitalization of the hydrogen economy by preparing the ‘First Basic Plan for the Implementation of the Hydrogen Economy’ in connection with 2050 carbon neutrality.”

Meanwhile, the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstration Center, completed in October 2018, is the only domestic demonstration facility that specializes in hydrogen piping supply method capable of demonstrating large-capacity hydrogen fuel cells. Small and medium-sized fuel cell companies are actively conducting evaluation and demonstration of new products such as large-capacity hydrogen fuel cells in cooperation.
