Prime Minister Han Deok-soo Attends Hangzhou Asian Games Despite Dismissal Controversy

President Xi Jinping Attends Opening Ceremony of Hangzhou Asian Games

By Kang Jeong-gyu – YTN Beijing Reporter

Chinese President Xi Jinping made a visit to Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, China to inspect the largest general merchandise wholesale market in the area. Yiwu holds significance for President Xi as it is his political hometown, where he served as the former party secretary of Zhejiang Province. The market has played a crucial role in the recovery of China’s export and import performance.

In his remarks, President Xi praised the market’s continuous contributions and stated, “This small yet remarkable market in Yiwu constantly brings forth new glory.”

President Xi will soon be moving on to Hangzhou to attend the opening ceremony of the Asian Games. As part of the visit, welcome events and bilateral meetings have been scheduled with visiting Chinese leaders. The Chinese authorities have designated Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, the representative of the South Korean government, as the chief guest for this occasion.

However, it is worth noting that North Korea, which has shown a closer alignment with Russia and a slight rift with China, was not included in the list of invited representatives. Instead, the Sports Minister will be representing North Korea at the event.

South Korea’s government, as customary, will be sending the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to the Asian Games. However, the significance of this particular attendance has been heightened due to the upcoming high-level meeting to resume the Korea-China-Japan summit on the 26th. The South Korean Prime Minister, Han Deok-soo, expressed his expectations and desire for a conversation with President Xi Jinping should the opportunity arise.

However, this will be the first time in constitutional history that a prime minister attends the opening ceremony of an international event with the stigma of having passed a dismissal bill in the National Assembly.

This is Kang Jeong-gyu reporting from Beijing.

Chinese President Xi Jinping attends the opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games.

I am interested in whether I will meet with Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, the representative of our government or not, but ‘passing the dismissal bill’ has emerged as a problem.

President Xi Jinping inspected the largest general merchandise wholesale market in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, China.

It is the political hometown of President Xi, former party secretary of Zhejiang Province, and a driving force behind the return to normal of export and import performance.

President Xi then moves to Hangzhou to attend the opening ceremony of the Asian Games.

A welcome event and bilateral meetings have also been arranged for visiting Chinese leaders.

North Korea, which stuck closely to Russia and showed a subtle rift with China, sent the Sports Minister as its representative and was omitted from the list.

As usual, our government also sends the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to this event, but this time the level has been raised significantly.

They showed their will to improve relations ahead of a high-level meeting to resume the Korea-China-Japan summit on the 26th.

Prime Minister Han also expressed his expectations, saying that if he had the opportunity to meet President Xi Jinping, he would like to have a conversation.

However, for the first time in constitutional history, he attended the opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games with the stigma of being a prime minister whose dismissal was passed by the National Assembly.
