Coimbatore: A newlywed couple was killed in a collision between two two-wheelers. Three people were injured. The accident took place near a new vegetable market on Mettupalayam Annoor Road. The deceased have been identified as Ajith (23), a native of Karamada Periya Puthur and Priyanka (20), daughter of Thalathura Karuppaswamy. Priyanka’s cousin Chewwanti, Pollachi natives Sheikh Alauddin and Sadiq were injured.
Ajith had told Priyanka to come to Mettupalayam to buy Metti (Minchi or toe jewelery) on the day of Adiperuk. The family had also sent her cousin Chevvanthi along with Priyanka. Ajith told Priyanka that he would take her home on a bike after giving her a gift. Then Priyanka and Chevanthi got on the bike with Ajith.
Ajit’s bike collided with an oncoming Sheikh Alauddin’s bike as he approached the fresh vegetable market. Ajith died on the spot. The others were admitted to Mettupalayam Government Hospital. Priyanka was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital at night but succumbed to her injuries. The other three are in treatment.
Priyanka’s father Karuppaswamy’s father passed away while his daughter was returning to life. Priyanka is the third of his four daughters. Karuppaswamy was unwell and wanted to get married soon. So the moment was set for September 10th.
When Ajith called, the family was sending Priyanka as it was a special day in Tamil Nadu. The couple got engaged two weeks ago. The relatives did not inform Karuppu Swamy that his daughter had died due to illness.
