The English Premier League (EPL) promotion team, Brentford, who stepped into the first division for the first time in 74 years, is creating a strong sensation at the beginning of the season by grabbing the ankles of leader Liverpool.

Brentford drew 3-3 after a brawl against Liverpool in the sixth round of the 2021-22 season held at the Brentford Community Stadium in London, England on the 26th (Korean time).

Liverpool with 14 points maintained their lead with a draw on the day, but could not close the gap with 2nd-5th place Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Everton (with 13 points or more).

Brentford, who caused a stir by defeating Arsenal 2-0 in the opening game, showed off his formidable power by adding one point against Liverpool. Brentford finished ninth with 9 points, beating Son Heung-min’s Tottenham Hotspur (9 points).

Brentford, who defeated Hwang Hee-chan’s Wolverhampton 2-0 in the last 5 rounds, broke the Liverpool defense in the 27th minute and scored the opening goal in this game as well.

Liverpool’s counterattack wasn’t too bad either. Brentford allowed Liverpool to equalize in the 4th minute, then gave up to Mohamed Salah in the 9th minute of the second half. It was Salah’s 100th goal in the Premier League.

But Brentford did not collapse. In the 18th minute of the second half, Vitali Yanelt scored a header goal from a melee in front of the goal to turn the game around. Liverpool took the lead again with Curtis Jones’ mid-range shot in the 22nd minute of the second half, but Brentford scored the third goal in the 37th minute of the second half, Joane Wissa, to score an exhilarating draw.

Brentford finished third in the 2020-21 Championship (Second Division) and obtained a ticket to EPL promotion with the last train at the end of the playoffs. First of all, among the promotion teams, they are performing the best, with Norwich City (0 points) and Watford (7 points) staying in 20th and 11th, respectively.
