Prosecutor indictment for delivering ‘Yoon Jung-cheon false report’ to broadcast reporter

Former Prosecutor General Lee Gyu-won (currently deputy head of the Daejeon District Prosecutor’s Office) was indicted on the 28th, who is accused of distorting and leaking the ‘Yoon Jung-cheon interview report’ during the re-investigation of Kim Hak-eui’s alleged sexual favors at the villa of former Vice Justice Minister Kim Hak-eui. Builder Yoon Jung-cheon is a person who has been designated as a person who provided sexual entertainment to former Vice Minister Kim.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s 1st Criminal Division (Chief Prosecutor Lee Seon-hyeok) announced on the same day that it had indicted Prosecutor Lee Kyu-won without detention on charges of writing false official documents and using false documents, leaking official secrets, obstructing business, violating the Personal Information Protection Act, and defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act.

Prosecutor Lee worked as a member of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office for Past Photos from November 2018 to May 2019 and investigated the allegation of sexual entertainment by former Vice Minister Kim. He is accused of falsifying a report that summarizes the interview details between Yoon Jung-cheon, the central figure in the case, and Park Gwan-cheon, a former Blue House administrator who was in charge of verifying the personnel of former Vice Minister Kim in the Park Geun-hye government, and reporting it to the Prosecution and History Committee of the Ministry of Justice.

At the time, the prosecution judged that the Ministry of Justice’s Prosecutor’s Office had damaged the reputation of former Daegu High Prosecutor Yoon Gap-geun and Kwak Sang-do, a former member of the People’s Power, by distributing press releases to the media based on the false interview report of the prosecutor.

According to the Hankook Ilbo on the 29th, the interview report between Mr. Yoon and Park’s ex-administrative officer included suspicions that the former high prosecutor Yoon Gap-geun received golf entertainment from Mr. △ Allegations include that former lawmaker Kwak Sang-do exerted pressure on the police in connection with the investigation of former Vice Minister Kim during his tenure as chief of civil affairs at the Blue House.

Based on the false interview report of this prosecutor in March 2019, the past son-in-law recommended an investigation to the prosecution, claiming that former lawmaker Kwak used external pressure on the police while serving as senior civil affairs officer at the Blue House, Park Geun-hye. Two months later, it was also announced that a statement and circumstances were confirmed that the former High Prosecutor Yoon met Jung-cheon Yoon and had a meal together or played golf. However, unlike the previous son-in-law’s announcement, former lawmaker Kwak and former high prosecutor Yoon were acquitted in the prosecution’s investigation.

After the interview, the prosecutor is also accused of handing over or telling and reporting distorted interview reports to two people, including a reporter from a broadcasting station, whom he was usually close with between January and February of 2019. Prosecutors decided that the prosecutor had defamed the reputation of former High Prosecutor Yoon and former Vice Minister Kim’s wife by having this prosecutor report false information.

In fact, the interview report prepared by this prosecutor or the reports of influential media outlets based on the Supreme Prosecutor’s Past Photo Investigation Team were subsequently defeated in civil trials, and it was revealed that they were false reports that had nothing to do with the facts.

Among them, the lawsuit for damages filed by former High Prosecutor Yoon against JTBC and reporters is currently under appeal and is expected to be sentenced on the 14th of next month.

Prosecutor Lee said on his SNS on the 28th, “It is regretful and very regrettable that such a decision was made even after faithfully calling out to the Airborne Service and the prosecution.” I will find out.”
