    While Jeong Jin-ganu, head of the Political Coordination Office, who is the closest aide to Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, has been arrested on bribery and other charges, prosecutors are seizing and searching the Gyeonggi Provincial Office where Chung worked.

    The Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office sent prosecutors and investigators to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office on the afternoon of the 22nd to secure email records exchanged with provincial office staff when Chief Chung worked as policy chief of the provincial governor’s secretary’s office from 2018 to 2021 .

    Chief Jung was arrested on the 19th on four charges: bribery under the Serious Punishment for Certain Offenses Act, accepting bribes after dishonest treatment, violating the Anti-Corruption Act, and destroying evidence from teachers.

    Between February 2013 and October 2020, Jung is accused of receiving a total of 140 million won in money and goods from the so-called ‘Daejang-dong gang’, including Nam-wook and Kim Man-bae, on six occasions in exchange for convenience such as promoting various projects.

    In addition, in February 2015, he is accused of promising to share 24.5% of Kim’s common stock shares with Kim Yong, vice president of the Democracy Research Institute, and Yoo Dong-gyu, former head of the planning department of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation , in exchange for Daejang-dong’s choice of operators.
