Seongnam Mayor Eun Su-mi, the mayor of Gyeonggi Province, is being tried on charges of accepting a police officer’s request in exchange for receiving investigation information about her.

Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office 6th Criminal Division indicted Seongnam Mayor Eun Su-mi without detention in October 2018 on charges of accepting a police officer’s request for a Seongnam city project in exchange for receiving investigation information about his political finance law violation.

Police officer A belonging to the Seongnam Jungwon Police Station, who was also handed over to trial, asked the mayor of Eun to take charge of the tunnel street lamp replacement project worth 450 million won in exchange for handing over the investigation information, and then received 7,000 from the company. He is accused of taking 5 million won.

In addition, it was investigated that Mr. A asked for a personnel request to have his acquaintance sit in the position of 6th grade team leader in Seongnam City.

Mr. A’s police supervisor, Mr. B, was also asked to send Mayor Eun to a non-prosecution in October 2018, and in return, he was sent to trial on charges of soliciting a promotion to a specific city official.

Regarding the results of the investigation, Mayor Eun issued a statement and said, “At the time when it was said that the investigation secret was received from the police, his political fund law case had already been decided. It’s not true at all,” he said.
