At the time of Puneet’s death, Rajinikanth was admitted to Cauvery Hospital. So, days after Puneet’s death, Rajinikanth’s relatives and friends informed him.

“I am recovering after the surgery. I was in the hospital when Puneet Rajkumar passed away. I was informed a few days later. I was heartbroken to hear the news of Puneet’s death. The child who grew up in front of me. He was very talented and loving. He left us at a very young age, at the height of his successful acting career. Puneeth is the son of legendary Kannada actor Rajkumar. He made his film debut as a child actor in some of the films starring Rajkumar. Puneet won the National Award for Best Child Actor for his role as Appu in ‘Bettada Hoo’. Puneet Rajkumar, who later acted in another film ‘Appu’ as an adult, was known by the same nickname among the fans.

Apart from being an actor, the actor was also involved in charitable activities. During the first wave of Kovid, he donated Rs 50 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. During the floods in North Karnataka, Rs 5 lakh was given to the same fund. Along with being an actor, he was also a blessed singer.
