Istanbul – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to end the war in Ukraine. Erdogan added that he understood from his recent meeting with Putin that he wanted to end the war as soon as possible. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Corporation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan last week.
Ukraine recently regained territory seized by Russia. In an interview given to the US media PBS, Erdogan also gave a message that things are creating problems for Russia. “The way things are going now will create problems. So I understand that Putin may feel that it is enough to end the war as soon as possible,” he said.
Russia and Ukraine will soon hand over 200 of their prisoners to each other. It is not clear who is included in this list. Turkey, a member of Nato, took a ‘balanced’ stance by distancing itself from Western sanctions on Russia following the war. Turkey intervened in the efforts of the United Nations to export grain from Ukraine.
