Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron for his re-election on the 25th (local time).

The Kremlin said in a press release on the same day that Putin had sent a congratulatory message to President Macron, who had been re-elected. “I sincerely wish you success in your work in state affairs, and I wish you health and well-being,” Putin said in a preamble.

France’s Interior Ministry announced on the 24th that in the election results held on the 24th, Macron was elected with 58.54% of the vote, beating the candidate of the National Coalition (RN) Marine Le Pen (RN), which received 41.46%.

Putin’s congratulatory message was delivered amidst the conflict between Russia and France and the Western world due to the Ukraine crisis.

Previously, President Macron had taken the role of a solution by acting as a mediator on behalf of Europe, including holding several meetings with Russian President Putin, who had waged war in Ukraine.

As President Macron can play a key role in sanctions against Russia in the US and Europe, the Western world is welcoming President Macron’s re-election. US President Joe Biden also tweeted: “Congratulations on your re-election. France is our oldest ally and a key partner in solving global challenges.”

On the other hand, Le Pen, who is classified as pro-Russian, ran for president with a promise to reduce the influence of the European Union (EU) and reduce France’s role in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). He also opposes Western sanctions against Russia for invading Ukraine and has said he will consider a strategic reconciliation with Russia after the war is over. Le Pen’s father founded the National Front in 1972, the predecessor of the far-right National Coalition, which advocates for anti-globalization.
