Rabada released South Africa Rabada rested; ODI

South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada will not play in the ODI series against India. The player was rested due to workload. No one has been included in the management team to replace Rabada. The three-match ODI series starts tomorrow. (Rabada released South Africa)

Lokesh Rahul will open the innings in the ODI against South Africa. Along with Rahul, one of the co-openers will be Shikhar Dhawan, Rituraj Gaikwad and Ishant Kishan. Dhawan will be the first choice. All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer is expected to feature in the squad.

Rahul himself has announced that he will be the opener. Rahul is leading India as captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out due to injury. With the Test series losing by two matches to one, it is imperative for India to win the ODI series.

Kohli resigned as Test captain following an unexpected series defeat against South Africa. Kohli’s resignation was announced on Twitter. The announcement was made in a heartfelt note. In his resignation note, Virat Kohli thanked the BCCI, former head coach Ravi Shastri and former captain MS Dhoni.

In 2014, Virat Kohli took over as captain full time. Virat Kohli has been hailed as India’s most successful captain. Forty of the 68 Tests he led were successful.

The Pakistani players came out in support of Virat Kohli, who resigned as Test captain. Cricket fans in Pakistan also praised the 33-year-old Kohli. The players greeted Kohli on social media. Young pacers Naseem Shah, Mohammad Aamir, former batsman Azhar Mahmood and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan congratulated Kohli.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said Kohli’s decision to step down as Test captain was personal.
