Rainbow Six Siege Transgender Character Appears… Decisions for Diversity

Transgender characters appear for the first time in Ubisoft’s tactical multiplayer FPS game ‘Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege’.

Ubisoft announced on the 17th that it would release details of the new content ‘Crystal Guard’ for ‘Rainbow Six Siege’ and add a new operator ‘Osa’.

‘Osa’ is an attack operator from a Croatian military engineer who uses a transparent bulletproof shield to put pressure on the opposing team from the front. Although the update press release doesn’t specifically mention her gender, the character’s background description on the official website has a phrase that suggests she’s transgender.

“She focused on her work, realizing she was isolated by her unorthodox approach and other people’s attitudes toward her transition,” the statement said.

Ubisoft officially acknowledged that Osa is transgender through the North American webzine GameSpot. Ubisoft said, “The decision to create a transgender character was made at an early stage and was part of a plan to have a diverse operator list. “Written her story, she’s voiced by a transgender person. Her gender clearly influences her identity, but what we’re focusing on is her talent and influence.”

Meanwhile, the new operator ‘Osa’ can be played from the 18th.
