Jeddah: Heavy thunder and rain in Jeddah. It had been raining in the area since Saturday. Thunderstorms began on Sunday morning. By eleven o’clock it was raining heavily in most parts of the city.

The city of Jeddah has witnessed the heaviest rainfall in two years. Low-lying areas and many roads were flooded. Several vehicles were trapped in the floodwaters. Water flooded shops and houses.

The winds caused trees to fall in Naseem and Sulaimaniyah districts, damaging vehicles. Precautionary measures were taken under the Civil Defense, Traffic, Municipality, Health and Red Crescent Departments following a warning from the Meteorological Department that heavy rains were likely in and around Jeddah.

Traffic and civil defense had set up rescue systems, including fiberglass boats, in areas prone to flooding and flooding. The municipality had deployed more workers to drain and clean the roads and underpasses and to equip them with the necessary equipment and vehicles. The Regional Directorate of Health issued vigilance instructions to all hospitals. The Mecca Regional Disaster Management Center had earlier warned of heavy rains in the region till Sunday.

Meanwhile, climate change continues in the western regions of Saudi Arabia. Heavy rains lashed parts of Makkah and Tabuk on Sunday. The Met Office has forecast heavy rains in many parts of the country till next Tuesday.
