Mumbai: The BCCI has postponed the Ranji Trophy cricket tournament (Ranji Trophy 2021-22) indefinitely amid concerns over the third wave of COVID-19. Apart from the Ranji Trophy, the BCCI has also postponed the Col CK Nayudu Trophy and the Senior Women’s T20 League.

The Ranji Trophy was scheduled to start on the 13th of this month. Kerala’s first match was scheduled against Vidarbha in Bengaluru. The CK Naidu Trophy was also scheduled to start this month. The Senior Women’s T20 League was scheduled to take place next month.

“The safety of the players is a top priority and all three tournaments will be postponed until further notice as Kovid spreads across the country,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement. Jayshah said the revised dates would be announced later as the situation improves.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said that the Ranji Trophy will be held as per schedule. However, the BCCI was forced to postpone the tournament in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Bengaluru due to concerns over the third wave of Kovid tournaments.

Due to Kovid, the BCCI was unable to hold the Ranji Trophy last season. The Mumbai team had arrived in Kolkata for training matches ahead of the first match. The Mumbai team will retire based on the new decision. The BCCI is expected to take a decision on the West Indies-India series next month.
