Ralph Langnick (64, Germany), who has temporarily led English professional football Manchester United (Man United), will take over the Austrian national team.

The Austrian Football Association announced on its website on the 29th (Korean time) that it had appointed Rangnik as the new head of the Austrian national team.

Coach Langnick will only lead Manchester United until the end of the English Premier League season 2021-2022, and will take over the Austrian national team at the end of May to prepare for the UEFA Nations League.

The 2022-2023 UEFA Nations League starts in June, and Austria is in Group 1 of League A with France, Denmark and Croatia.

Langnick’s contract is for two years. If Austria advances to the finals of the European Football Championship (Euro 2024) to be held in Germany in 2024, the contract period will be extended by two years until the 2026 World Cup (co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States).

Austria also reached the round of 16 at Euro 2020 last year. However, he failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was looking for a replacement for Franco Foda, who resigned last month.

“It is an honor to be the manager of the Austrian national team,” said German coach Langnik.

Rangnick took over as Manchester United’s interim manager, succeeding Ole Gunnar Solskjer, who was sacked in November last year due to poor performance. At the end of his term, which lasts until the end of the season, he has agreed to serve as an advisor for United for two years, helping the team rebuild.

Manchester United have recently appointed manager Eric Ten Haach (Netherlands) as their new manager.

While coaching the Austrian national team, Langnik will also serve as an advisor to Manchester United.

According to Reuters, manager Rangnik responded to a reporter’s question about his role as a Manchester United adviser, saying, “The most important thing for me is signing players. United must discover and nurture the best players in the world.” He also cites Hollan (Borussia Dortmund) as an example.
