Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup (Supercopa de España) by defeating Athletic Bilbao.

Real Madrid beat Bilbao 2-0 in the Super Cup final against Bilbao at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on the 17th (Korean time) with consecutive goals from Luka Modric and Karim Benzema.

This marks Real Madrid’s 12th career title, two years after the 2019-20 season. This brings him closer to the record of rival Barcelona (13), the team with the most championships.

On the other hand, ‘Defending Champ’ Bilbao dreamed of winning the championship for two years in a row, but could not get over the last hurdle.

The first goal came from Real Madrid, who had been on the offensive from the beginning of the match. Modric took the lead in the 38th minute after receiving a pass from Rodrigo near the penalty box.

Real Madrid scored an additional goal in the 7th minute of the second half after finishing 1-0 in the first half. Benzema scored the goal from a penalty opportunity awarded for a handball foul by Jerai Alvarez.

Bilbao, who was busily moving to score a goal, also got a penalty kick in the 41st minute of the second half and seized the opportunity to turn around.

However, Sergio Escudero, who started as the kicker, lost the ball and lost the momentum to pursue. Neither team scored any more goals after that, and Real Madrid won the trophy.
