At the site of the accident, the search operation is being slowed down by the possibility of further collapse of the building’s exterior walls and the existing precariously standing crane.

However, after the accident, it was confirmed that the shaking of the upper floors of the building was getting worse day by day.

Correspondent Woo Jong-hoon reported.

The construction company and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport judged that the possibility of further collapse of the building’s outer wall, which was the most worrying after the accident, was not at a level of concern.

“The measurement result of the retaining wall is from minus 32mm to plus 24mm, plus/minus 45mm as a guideline, and when it deviates from plus 45mm, we will discuss the work situation again.”

As a result of measuring the degree of shaking of the building, it is within the safe standard range.

However, after the accident, MBC independently obtained a report that the degree of shaking in the upper floors of the building is increasing day by day.

According to the report submitted by Hyundai Development Company to Gwangju City, as a result of measuring the movement of the outer wall near the crane on the 38th floor, where the collapse began, it moved up to 6mm eastward on the 15th, the next day, compared to the 14th, the first measurement date, and the third day On the 16th, it moved up to 16mm in the same direction.

“If you look at the picture on the 38th floor, it is a graph that shows that (the building) is currently leaning to the southeast.”

So far, they appear to be staying within the standards set by the authorities, but the future is a problem.

Experts point out that the building’s shaking is getting worse and worse, and the wind and even heavy machinery can create a dangerous situation.

“It continues to change over time, and if the (shake) level rises, then there is a considerable risk, so you have to evacuate (action must be taken).”

The dismantling of the precariously tilted tower crane is also slow.

Even workers who will dismantle tower cranes are known to be reluctant to enter the site, which carries high risks.

“These people specialize in their work (tower crane dismantling), but they are also at risk, so they went away. As far as I know this time, I know that the third (worker) has come.”

After the dismantling of the crane is completed, reinforcement work on the exterior walls of the building can proceed.

The search operation to find the missing person in the upper floors of the building is also expected to begin in earnest after that.
