[아시아경제 이현주 기자] On the 17th, former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential contender for the People’s Power, officially announced the appointment of former floor leader Joo Ho-young as the election committee chair.

Former President Yoon held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Hall on the same day and said, “He has helped us (camp) in many ways before, but he gladly accepted the difficult position this time.” said

Joo, a former judge, first became a member of the National Assembly in Suseong, Daegu in 2004, and held the constituency in Daegu five times until last year’s general election. In the meantime, he served as a special minister, special adviser for political affairs to the president, chairman of the policy committee, and floor representative. Assemblyman Joo said, “I am confident that Pil-seung, the candidate of the Democratic Party’s power to achieve a change of government, is the former President Yoon. He was the protagonist who awakened the possibility of a regime change to the members of the party.” He also added, “It is the credit of former President Yoon that he has the justification and conviction for a regime change.”

Rep. Joo also severely criticized the Moon Jae-in regime in order to assert the justification for a regime change. He pointed out, “The five years of the Moon Jae-in administration were truly a disaster and a period of self-harm for the Korean people. “The overwhelming majority of people want a regime change,” he said.

Former President Yoon said that he had contacted him several times to recruit Joo as the election chairperson. After meeting with reporters after the meeting, former President Yoon said, “Since he entered politics as a senior in the legal profession, he has personally respected and followed him.”

The appointment of Chairman Joo is expected to gain momentum in securing party sentiment in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, where a significant number of Party members are concentrated. Rep. Hong Jun-pyo, another presidential contender, is also in Suseong-gu, Daegu.
