Red Bull Racing has announced that it has terminated its contract with Juri Vips, a test and reserve driver for the F1 team, which uses racist language.
Last week, Juri Vips used N-words (discriminatory expressions against blacks) during livestreaming of the game on Twitch. Red Bull had been suspended from work until a full investigation by the team.
Prior to this weekend’s F1 British Grand Prix, Red Bull announced that it had terminated its contract with Juri Vips and ended its four-year relationship with the team.
“Following the investigation into an online incident involving Juri Vips, Oracle Red Bull Racing has terminated Yuri’s contract as a test and reserve driver,” Red Bull Racing said in a statement.
“The team does not tolerate any form of racism.”
From Estonia, Juri Vips participated in the Red Bull F1 Junior Program in 2018 and has been competing in F2 since 2020 with a commitment as an F1 test and reserve driver for Red Bull Racing.
Juri Vips made his first free practice weekend debut on behalf of Sergio Perez at the F1 Spanish Grand Prix earlier this year, working on a regular Red Bull simulator.
“I would like to sincerely apologize for the unpleasant words used in today’s live game stream,” Yuri Vips said in a statement in the wake of the incident and disciplinary action.
