Red Bull F1 Leaders “Feedback from Honda for 2022 F1 Engine is Promising”[F1-Gate .com]

Helmut Marko, Red Bull F1 Motorsports Advisor, says he has received “promising feedback” from Honda regarding the development of the 2022 F1 power unit.

Honda officially withdrew F1 at the end of 2021, but a new partnership was established with Red Bull and will continue to supply F1 engines to Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri until 2025.

F1 sustainability efforts will require all manufacturers’ F1 engines to run on E10 fuels containing fossil fuels and 10% ethanol from 2022. And this change coincides with the timing when the development of F1 power unit is frozen for three years.

The move to E10 fuel required engineers to make some modifications, especially in the combustion chamber of the V6 turbo hybrid unit.

Last month, Helmut Marko revealed that the change in E10 fuel was affecting the output of Honda’s F1 engine, but after that, Honda’s recent development work was “promising”.

“Things look very positive,” Helmut Marko told Kleine Zeitung.

“This year, the proportion of synthetic fuels will increase from 5% to 10%. It already needs a lot of changes.”

“But Honda gives only promising feedback. Honda is no longer on the car, but the Japanese are helping us.”

On the chassis side, Red Bull unveiled a 2022 concept car at Milton Keynes last week. According to Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s genuine RB18 will be available next week when the pre-season test starts in Barcelona.

“It was a presentation for the time being,” said Helmut Marko.

“That’s especially important for our partners. The first rollout will be done later, and there will be some changes until the first race in Bahrain.”

“The presentation doesn’t reveal everything. There are still some updates.”

Helmut Marko admits that Red Bull faced some hurdles during the development of the RB18. One of them was fighting for the 2021 World Championship while simultaneously carrying out the 2022 project.

“This was the biggest regulation change in the last 15-20 years,” said Helmut Marko.

“All new designs and plans had to be done within budget limits and we had to fight for the World Championships and at the same time move new machines forward.”

In the specification table of AlphaTauri’s 2022 F1 machine “AT03” announced on February 14 (Monday), it was announced that the F1 engine supplied by Honda (HRC) to Red Bull Powertrains is “RBPTH001”. ing.
