Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner has given his take on an “interesting” team manager change in the paddock during the off-season.
Several F1 teams will start the 2023 season with new leaders. Former Alfa Romeo driver Frederic Vasseur will take over as team principal and general manager from January, following Mattia Binotto’s resignation from Ferrari.
Elsewhere, former McLaren F1 team boss Andreas Seidl will become CEO of Sauber, replaced by Andrea Stella.
At Williams, there was a vacancy following the departure of Jost Capito, which was filled by former Mercedes F1 strategy director James Bowles.
Christian Horner, who joined Red Bull Racing in 2005 and is now the longest-serving team principal on the grid, admits he will be interested to see what the different teams do over the winter.
“It was interesting to see the movement,” Christian Horner told Motor Sport Magazine.
“I have sympathy for Mattia, because in the end he did a good job. Last year was a big step forward compared to previous years. It must have been difficult for him after so many years in Ferrari. Absent”
“As for Fred, it will be interesting to see if he still discusses the same points as he did for Sauber in future meetings! But again, he is very capable. He is a man.”
“It’s going to be very interesting. I’m sure they’re all very talented people. We’ll see what the dynamics are at work at the next F1 Commission meeting.”
James Bowles is moving from Mercedes to Williams, but Horner is not concerned that this will bring any additional benefits to Mercedes.
“I don’t know James very well, but he is clearly a very capable man,” explained Horner.
“Williams has done enough research and I think it would be great to give him the opportunity to step up, so I think it’s only good news for Williams.”
“Is there anything connected to that? It is clear that Williams did what was right for them, what was right for their business. But it is up to them to decide what was agreed for their early release. Just know”
