Red Bull F1 rep “I believed in acquiring constructors in the hybrid era”[F1-Gate.com]

Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner says the team “never stopped believing” in their pursuit of the first F1 constructors’ title of the hybrid era.

After Max Verstappen already won his second driver’s title at the Japanese Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing finally won the Constructors’ title at the US Grand Prix, a run since the introduction of new power unit rules in 2014. It ended eight years head of dominance from Mercedes.

This comes a day after the team was rocked by the news of the death of Red Bull founder and co-owner Dietrich Mateschitz.

Before the race, past Red Bull drivers took part and applauded Dietrich Mateschitz on the grid.

“It’s been a very emotional weekend,” Horner said when asked what it meant to win the title in such circumstances.

“It was very emotional for the whole team when we got the news yesterday that Dietrich died because he was truly a giant and did a lot for F1, not just Red Bull Racing in the body

“We decided to honor him in a way that would make him proud.”

“So there were no black armbands, no minute of silence. There was something tangible to be honoured, and the best way to do that naturally was the performance on the circuit.”

“So, after eight long years, we’ve never stopped believing, we’ve never stopped pushing ourselves, we’ve never stopped improving ourselves, and we’re at the top the two world championships. We never lost sight of our goal and purpose of coming back.”

“And we have done it. It is a testament to the hard work of all our staff and the contribution of all our partners and suppliers.”

“And the spirit he embodied permeated throughout Red Bull, allowing him to achieve what many thought was impossible.”

Christian Horner praised the harmony of the Red Bull team, saying it allowed them to achieve “an incredible job under very difficult conditions this year”.

“I think it’s the way the team has worked to come together as a group,” Horner said when asked why Red Bull overtook Ferrari.

“That’s how they’ve supported each other operationally, developmentally and trackside in every part of the business and to win the Constructors’ World Championship every department has to play their part. Yes, that’s exactly it we had.”

“I think we started very late on this car. It was heavy at the beginning of the year, but we managed to lighten the weight, which helped us achieve balance.”

“I think the team has done a great job under very difficult circumstances this year.”
