Red Bull F1 team principal Christian Horner believes Max Verstappen’s controversial defense to Lewis Hamilton at the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix was perfectly fair on Turn 4.
On the 48th lap, two people competing for the title were fighting each other. Lewis Hamilton pulled Max Verstappen from the outside on Turn 4.
However, Max Verstappen ran a lot on the inside line and eventually got off the track at the exit, pushing Lewis Hamilton further.
The incident was recorded by F1 race directors Michael Masi and Steward, but it was determined that no formal investigation was needed.
Mercedes F1 team representative Toto Wolff said the decision not to punish Max Verstappen, who pushed Lewis Hamilton off the track, was “laughing”, but Christian Horner sees things quite differently.
Christian Horner said, “Two guys fought hard and Lewis went outside. Max went deep and both swelled. It would have been really unfair if he had punished it.” Comment on F1.
“If it was the other way around, I would have moaned about it to the sporting director, but I wouldn’t have expected anything there.”
Many observers suggested that Max Verstappen’s actions were worthy of a penalty, but Christian Horner said there were no rule violations and no contact.
“What’s the penalty?” Said Christian Horner.
“I didn’t get an advantage or contact. I think it was a hard racing between the two.”
“In fact, I think Steward made the right decision about it. We were talking about getting them to compete for mentality over and over again, and I think they made the right decision today.”
This year, F1 was criticized for inconsistent FIA rulings, with many controversial incidents punished for pushing rivals out of its rivals.
However, Christian Horner believes that such a fierce race is inevitable in the face of F1 World Champion.
“I’m going to race hard with Max, and Lewis is exactly the same,” added Christian Horner.
“It’s going to be a tough race because we’re two guys fighting for the world championships, but I think it was fair and I didn’t get in touch. They resumed the fight a few laps later.”
