reduction in oil production; Biden to review Saudi Arabia-US relationship Biden re-evaluates US relationship with Saudi Arabia after OPEC decision

Washington: After OPEC announced that it will cut oil production, US President Joe Biden announced that he will re-examine relations with Saudi Arabia, according to White House security spokesman John Kirby. A Saudi-led coalition of oil producers has announced it will stand with Russia to cut production. The decision to cut oil production by two million barrels a day starting in November angered the White House. This is followed by Biden’s response.

Kirby said Biden was disappointed with the OPEC decision and was willing to work with Congress on the future of Saudi relations. Kirby added that the issue is not just about the war in Ukraine, but about America’s national security interests. Following OPEC’s announcement, the Democratic Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Bob Menendez, called for a freeze on cooperation with Saudi Arabia, including arms sales.
