Report Sanju Samson to be India’s vice-captain Sanju Samson set to be Named Vice-captain of Indian cricket team for South Africa Report – News18 Malayalam

News agency ANI reports that Sanju Samson may be selected as vice-captain for the three-match ODI series against South Africa. ANI reported quoting BCCI sources that Shikhar Dhawan will be appointed India’s captain and Samson as his deputy due to the absence of top players in the 50-over series.
The 3-match T20 series against South Africa will be followed by a 3-match ODI series. Team India will field a specialist one-day squad against South Africa in a three-match series in Lucknow, Ranchi and Delhi, along with players preparing for the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Samson, 27, from Kerala, was part of the ODI series against Zimbabwe, which India won 3-0. So far, he has represented India in seven ODIs and 16 T20Is. Samson is currently captaining the India A team against New Zealand A at home. Batsman Rajat Patidar is likely to make his ODI debut against South Africa, sources said.

Earlier, Samson was selected to captain the India A team against New Zealand A. Also, the crowd packed the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai where Samson came out to bat as the captain of the A team and welcomed Samson to the floor with standing ovation.

Despite being one of the rising stars of Indian cricket, the Kerala batsman has long been overlooked. He was left out of India’s T20 squad during the recently concluded England tour when senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma returned to the squad. Also, the fate was the same in the match against the West Indies. After playing just two T20 matches, Samson, who scored 30 and 5, was not selected for the 2022 World Cup T20 team.
