Riyadh: More than 17,598 people have been arrested in Saudi Arabia for violating residency, labor and border security laws. The arrests were made within a week of September two to nine.
A total of 6,594 people were arrested for violating residency laws. A total of 9,229 people were arrested for violating border security regulations and 1,775 for violating labor laws. A total of 202 people were arrested while trying to cross the border into the country. Of these, 48 percent are Yemeni nationals. 49% are Ethiopians and 3% are from other countries. At least 21 people have been arrested for trying to cross the border into the country. Authorities arrested 12 people for helping the offenders. A total of 83,118 offenders were convicted. Of these, 71,456 were males and 11,662 were females.
