[ワシントン 20日 ロイター] – The US administration and Congressional Republicans exchanged accusations on the 20th over the federal debt limit. No talks took place that day, and a White House official said President Biden had directed his administration team to schedule a phone call with House Speaker McCarthy, a Republican, for ET Wednesday morning.

Biden was briefed last night and this morning on the progress of the debt ceiling negotiations during his visit to Japan.

White House spokesman Jean-Pierre said in a statement that the Republican Party was pushing too far to the right. Meanwhile, McCarthy also told reporters that Democrats are taking a far left stance.

“Unfortunately, the White House has gone backwards,” McCarthy said, adding that it appeared the “socialist side” of the Democratic Party was in control. He also said that negotiations would not move forward until Biden returned home.
