Kabul: Rocket attack on Kandahar airport in Afghanistan. The AFP reports that the attack took place on Saturday night. The Taliban are said to be behind the attack.
Three rockets were fired at the airport. Two of these crashed into the runway. Airport chief Masood Pashtun said all flights had been canceled.
The runway of the airport is undergoing repairs. He said he hopes the runway will be operational by Sunday night. Kabul Civil Aviation has also confirmed the details of the attack.
Kandahar is the second largest city in Afghanistan. Kandahar airport supplies supplies to Taliban fighters in the region. The Taliban have reportedly taken control of two other provinces in Afghanistan following the attack.
