Abu Dhabi: Rajasthan Royals kept Mumbai Indians playoff hopes alive by beating Mumbai Indians by eight wickets in the IPL. Ben Stokes’ century and Sanju Samson’s half-century put Rajasthan on the brink of victory. Batting first, Mumbai scored 195 for five in the allotted 20 overs, losing just two wickets with 10 balls to spare.
Stokes hit 14 fours and three sixes off 60 balls, while Sanju remained unbeaten on 107 with 54 off 31 balls, including three sixes and four fours. The duo put on 152 for the third wicket. Both of them punished the Mumbai bowlers. Mumbai could not control the flow of runs despite six balls to spare.
After losing Robin Uthappa (13) in the second over and skipper Steve Smith (11) in the fifth over, Sanju Samson and Ben Stokes’ brilliant performance for Rajasthan.
Earlier, Hardik Pandya hit 60 off just 21 balls, including seven sixes and two fours. Hardik’s knock brought Mumbai’s score to 195. Hardik Karthik, who hit 27 runs in four overs, including four sixes, was bowled by Karthik Tyagi in the last over.
Earlier in the day, Joffre Archer lost opener Quinton Decock (6) in the first over but Ishant Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav put on 59 for Mumbai in the powerplay. The duo broke up after a 83 – run stand for the second wicket.
Ishant Kishan (37 off 36 balls, including a six and four fours) was dismissed by Karthik Tyagi. Kishan was caught by Joffre Archer.
Shreyas Gopal dismissed Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard (6) in the 13th over to stop Mumbai’s run chase in the middle overs. Suryakumar Yadav hit 40 off 26 balls, including a six and four fours.
Hardik and Saurabh Tiwary added 64 runs for the fifth wicket. Hardik’s shot came off Saurabh Tiwary’s 34 off 25 balls, including a six and four fours.
