Rumors that the next iMac Pro will have a “fourth M1 chip” with a 12-core CPU-Engadget Japan version

The iMac Pro with Intel chips was discontinued in March 2021, but it is rumored that Apple is preparing its own Apple Silicone version of the iMac Pro. Under such circumstances, it is expected that the next iMac Pro will have an M1 series chip different from the M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max.

Based on the M1 chip, Apple offers improved M1 Pro and M1 Max for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. The subsequent “fourth M1 chip” may be introduced to the Mac.

According to a tweet by famous leaker (a person who sends influential information about unreleased products of interest) Dylandkt, “It was confirmed that the next iMac Pro will have a configuration that exceeds M1 Max.” He also reports that a reference to a 12-core CPU was found in the code related to the iMac.

Dylandkt has previously suggested that Apple’s silicon version of the iMac Pro will have additional configurations, namely M1 series chips other than the M1 Pro and M1 Max, in the form of a follow-up.

The original M1 has 8 CPU cores and 7 or 8 GPU cores, while the enhanced M1 Pro has 8 or 10 CPU cores. The top M1 Max has 10 CPU cores, but it has a larger maximum RAM capacity (64GB compared to 32GB) and more GPU cores than Pro.

It’s not clear what the new chip’s CPU core configuration will be, but given that the 10-core CPU was “two high-efficiency cores and eight high-performance cores” for the M1 Max, the iMac Pro is a desktop. Depending on the application, there is little need for power saving, so it may be 2 high-efficiency cores + 10 high-performance cores.

“There’s a reason the in-house naming candidate is the” iMac Pro, “because it’s targeting professionals,” Dylandkt said.

Regarding the next iMac Pro, there is also influential information that it will be released in the spring of 2022 with a 27-inch mini LED (a statement by a display specialist analyst), and it is possible that it will appear as a professional product in the near future in terms of both performance and price. The sex seems to be high.
