“Russia is using rape as a weapon of war”

On the 30th of last month, the Ukrainian security service eavesdropped and released the contents of a call from a Russian soldier.

This Russian soldier is telling his wife about the war situation.

“There are three soldiers here who raped a young girl. (Who?) Our men. The girl was 16. (Our troops?) Yeah.”

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, a transportation hub, was heavily bombarded by Russians.

A city that was burnt and torn down. On the battlefield, where people suffer and die, women are more sexually assaulted.

“This is a terrible situation right now. Women who have been raped have come to the hospital and have done that. It’s terrible.”

On the 11th, 12 women were sexually assaulted by Russian soldiers in a village alone.

“Sexual assault is being used as a weapon of war. The numbers disclosed are just the tip of the iceberg.”

About 50,000 people were raped in Yugoslavia in 1991 About 500,000 people were raped in Rwanda in 1994.

International law regards sexual assault during war as a crime equivalent to genocide and strengthens the punishment.

Because they are all crimes against humanity.
