[モスクワ 24日 ロイター] – Former Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest aide, Dmitry Medvedev, said Thursday that he wants a demilitarized buffer zone around Russian-annexed areas of Ukraine.

“We need to achieve all the goals set to defend our territory, the territory of the Russian Federation,” Medvedev said in an interview with Russian media posted on Telegram. “We need to expel all foreigners in the broadest sense and establish a buffer zone that prohibits the use of weapons of any kind that operate at medium and short ranges of 70-100 kilometers,” he said.

If such a demilitarized zone cannot be established, Russia may need to penetrate deeper into Ukraine and take control of the capital Kyiv and western Lviv, he said.
