[モスクワ 20日 ロイター] – Russia’s Kremlin has instructed officials to stop using Apple iPhones over concerns that they are open to Western intelligence agencies. The Russian newspaper Kommersant reported on the 20th.

Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Office Sergey Kiriyenko told a Kremlin-sponsored seminar for domestic political officials to change their cellphones by April 1, the newspaper reported.

“The iPhone is over. Throw it away or give it to your kids,” said one attendee.

Instead of the iPhone, the Kremlin could offer other devices with different operating systems, the newspaper said.

Kremlin spokesman Peskov could not confirm the reports, but said the smartphones could not be used for official purposes anyway.

Apple has yet to comment.
