A famous tennis player has stolen his Olympic medal. Among the lost medals, there is a silver medal obtained by participating in the recently closed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which is a pity for those around them.

According to foreign media on the 12th, Russian tennis player Elena Vesnina, 35, had a shocking incident where a thief broke into her house and stole a medal. Vesnina is a very famous player who reached number 1 in the tennis doubles world rankings in 2018.

Vesnina told local media outlets that her house in Moscow Oblast had been robbed and she had lost all her precious metals. “When I got home from dinner with my husband, someone had already stolen the precious metals, including the Olympic medals,” he said.

Upon receiving the report of Vesnina, the local police launched an investigation. Police believe the robbers forcibly opened the door and broke into the house. As a victim, Vesnina is said to have stated that she “forgot to turn on the alarm when going out with her husband” during police interrogation. As a result of checking by the actual police, the alarm system at the time did not work properly.

Vesnina has won the French Open in 2013, the US Open in 2014, and the women’s doubles at Wimbledon in 2017. In the case of the Olympics, at the 2016 Rio Olympics, she competed in the women’s doubles with Ekaterina Makarov and won the gold medal. At the recently finished Tokyo Olympics in 2020, instead of women’s doubles, he competed in mixed doubles with men’s Aslan Karachev and won the silver medal.

Police have also begun to ascertain the exact extent of the damage. For reference, the Brazilian Mint, which manufactured the gold medal at the Rio Olympics, said, “It costs about 600 dollars (about 700,000 won) to make one gold medal.” It is known that the price of a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics is about 930,000 won. Of course, there are more objections that setting a price itself is meaningless as Olympic medals cannot be easily obtained.
