RT DE Productions, part of the Russian state-funded TV network RT (formerly known as Russia Today), has decided to end its journalistic activities in Germany, according to a statement on the TV channel’s website.

The decision, according to the company, was made in connection with “repressive restrictions on the freedom of the press and media in the EU”. RT DE is said to be facing enormous pressure from governments, media, corporations and others, but that the team is proud of what it has achieved. “Freedom of the press no longer exists in Germany. The EU, by blocking RT, aims to silence a critical and non-pro-Western source of information, and not only regarding the war in Ukraine,” the Russian media added.

On March 2, a week after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the European Union announced the suspension of RT broadcasts, including RT English, RT UK, RT Germany, RT France and RT Spanish.

However, RT DE’s content and reporting will remain available on the channel’s website, the announcement added.
