Russia’s deputy head of national security has hinted at the possibility of nuclear weapons and warned that this is not lame.

According to Reuters, the deputy head of the Russian National Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, said on the 27th (local time) that Russia has the right to respond without consulting Western countries amid rising tensions between Russia and the West.

Medvedev wrote on Telegram, “Ukraine has threatened the existence of the Russian state by carrying out a large-scale armed attack. Imagine that Russia has no choice but to use the most terrible (nuclear) weapon that exists in Ukraine like this.”

“Even in this situation, NATO will not intervene,” he said. “Russia has the right to defend itself. This is not a cliff.”

Medvedev added, “I want to emphasize once again, Russia has the right to use nuclear weapons, in which case we will strictly adhere to its policy.

Recently, Russia has repeatedly reiterated its position that it will not hesitate to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine if necessary.

“We have our own military potential,” said Dmitry Novikov, first vice-chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian House of Representatives. “If anyone thinks we won’t use[arfau niwclear]if there’s a threat, they’re wrong.”

With the United States and other Western countries in mind, Novikov added, “If the other side is also ready to use this type of weapon, we will prepare our nuclear weapons to keep them from rusting.”
