[이데일리 스타in 주미희 기자] Ryu Hyun-jin (36, Toronto Blue Jays) completed his first pen after surgery. He even ventured to lose weight and strengthen his will to come back.

On the 26th (Korea time), MLB.com, which presents news about the American professional baseball Major League (MLB), also released an interview with Ryu Hyun-jin.

On the 24th, Ryu Hyun-jin climbed the bullpen mound in the Tropicana Field outfield in St. Petersburg, Florida, and throw a ball. The Toronto coaching staff and colleagues, including coach John Schneider, stood behind Hyun-Jin Ryu and watched his bullpen pitching, applauding when the bullpen pitching was over.

Above all, the most noticeable part is Ryu Hyun-jin’s slim appearance. In an interview with local reporters, Ryu Hyun-jin said, “I did aerobic exercise and weight training hard. Also, giving up late night snacking is the biggest secret to weight loss.”

Ryu Hyun-jin, who aims to return in mid-July, said, “Originally I thought it would be ideal to come back during the All-Star break and be part of the team for a second half term. At the moment, that is the goal and we will set the schedule according to the plan,” he said, expressing his strong will to return. After undergoing elbow ligament surgery in June last year, Ryu spent Hyun-jin almost a year in recovery and rehab training. “I started throwing changeups and curveballs,” he said. There’s still work to be done. He said, “The most important thing is getting the starting pitcher’s body back.”

This year is the last year of Ryu Hyun-jin’s 4 year contract with Toronto. It is expected that Ryu Hyun-jin’s performance in the second half of this year will be very important for his future next year.

Ryu Hyun-jin, who made his debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013, played in 175 games and went 75-45 with a 3.27 ERA.
