Ryu Hyun-jin’s Tommy John surgery… At least one year of rehabilitation

Toronto pitcher Hyun-jin Ryu eventually underwent elbow ligament splicing, the so-called ‘Tommy John surgery’.

At the earliest, you can come back around this time next year, and maybe it will be difficult to come back next year.

Hyunjin Ryu pondered whether to remove only the damaged part of the elbow ligament, or whether to perform Tommy John surgery, which joins a new ligament altogether, and ultimately chose Tommy John surgery to solve the fundamental problem.

As it usually takes between a year and a year and a half to recover and return, Ryu Hyun-jin, whose contract with Toronto expires after the next season, has made a difficult decision to risk his life as a big league player.
