Johannesburg: India’s interim captain KL Rahul has started his tour of South Africa with a century. Rahul becomes only South African to score a century in Tests after Wasim Jaffer. India won the match. Rahul was the captain in the second match. Rahul became the captain when Virat Kohli was injured. If Rahul had scored a half-century in the first innings, India would have lost.
South Africa beat India 2-1 in the third Test to win the series. Rahul was the highest run scorer in the series. Later, Rahul was tasked with leading the ODI team. Rahul’s opportunity came when Rohit Sharma was ruled out with an injury. Rahul will lead India in all the three matches.
Rahul is India’s 26th ODI captain. Moreover, Rahul is the first player to make his captaincy in South Africa. No other Indian has made his captaincy debut against South Africa. Finally, Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan made their captaincy debuts at the away ground. India had won the series under both.
Rahul had said that he was proud to lead India. When asked about the captaincy, Rahul said he would try to give the best result.
