Pearl: With the exception of Jasprit Bumrah, none of the Indian bowlers (Team India) were able to take a significant wicket as the all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer was not given a chance to bowl. This is the question asked by all the fans who watched the first ODI (South Africa vs India 1st ODI) against South Africa. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan answered this question.

‘Venkatesh Iyer was not given a chance to bowl because the spinners got the ball on the pitch and bowled well. The pacers were not used much in the middle overs. The spinners were leading the attack, “Dhawan was quoted as saying by ANI after the match.

Venkatesh Iyer replaces all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is struggling with form and fitness issues. In the maiden innings, however, skipper KL Rahul did not concede a single ball to him. With this, the fans came to the scene with the question of an all-rounder who did not bowl. Hardik’s failure to bowl when he joined the team after surgery has been widely criticized before.

Batting first, South Africa scored 296 for four in 50 overs. Skipper Themba Bauma (110 off 143 balls) and Van der Dawson (129 off 96 balls) scored centuries. In reply, India scored 265 for 8. Shikhar Dhawan (79) and Virat Kohli (51) were the other notable contributors, but the middle order, which included Venkatesh, failed. Shardul Thakur, who was unbeaten on 50 at the tail end, reduced India’s deficit to just 2 off seven balls.
