Samsung[005930] Mini LED TV ‘Neo QLED’ and Samsung Electro-Mechanics[009150] The product has received environmental certification from the British non-profit organization ‘Carbon Trust’.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 3rd that its Neo QLED TV has obtained the Carbon Trust ‘Carbon Footprint’ certification in recognition of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The certified models are 8K 75-type and 4K 65-type products.

The Carbon Trust is a certification body established by the British government for the purpose of responding to climate change and reducing greenhouse gases, and it is the first time that a TV with 4K or higher resolution has received this certification.

Carbon footprint certification evaluates greenhouse gas emissions in the entire process from production, distribution, use, and disposal of products according to international standards. Carbon reduction certification can be obtained when the carbon emission is reduced compared to the existing equivalent model.

Samsung Electronics announced that it has reduced carbon emissions by using eco-friendly materials to reduce the amount of carbon generated during the incineration process when discarding, and by improving the efficiency of materials used in manufacturing parts and minimizing power consumption.

Samsung Electronics plans to expand this certification to all Neo QLED models, lifestyle products, and commercial signage products in the future.

“We will fulfill our responsibilities as an industry leader by making various efforts to protect the environment and the best products as well as people-centered technology innovation,” said Yonghoon Choi, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electro-Mechanics also announced that its MLCC (Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor) and two semiconductor package substrates were the first in the industry to simultaneously acquire ‘Carbon Footprint’ and ‘Water Footprint’ certifications from the Carbon Trust.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics reduced carbon emissions through process improvement activities such as the introduction of high-efficiency energy-saving facilities, and reduced water consumption by recycling concentrated water generated during the manufacturing process in other facilities.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics CEO Kye Kyung-hyun said, “For sustainable management, we are prioritizing stable profits (Profit), the pursuit of happiness for members of society (People), and realization of environmental responsibilities (Planet). We will respond to this and practice sustainable management and socially responsible management.”
