Samsung SDI announced on the 28th that it posted KRW 4.494 trillion in sales and KRW 322.3 billion in operating profit in the first quarter of this year (January to March). Compared to the same period last year, sales increased 36.7% and operating profit increased by 142.0%. Compared to the previous quarter, sales and operating profit increased by 6.1% and 21.3%, respectively. This is the first time that Samsung SDI’s quarterly sales exceed KRW 4 trillion. Operating profit was the highest on record as of the first quarter.
Sales of the energy and other divisions in charge of the battery business increased 39.0% year-on-year to KRW 3.319 trillion and operating profit increased by 251.8% to KRW 165 billion. This is attributable to the increase in sales of batteries for electric vehicles and small batteries.
