Rajasthan spent Rs 14 crore to retain Sanju. The Rajasthan team also retained English batsman Jose Butler and young Indian opener Yashaswi Jaiswal. Captain Sanju Samson said the goal is to build a strong team of experienced players and newcomers aimed at winning the IPL title. Sanju’s reaction came after the details of the players retained by the team were released.

I started playing with Rajasthan Royals and now lead the Rajasthan team. Sanju responded that it was a great honor. Sanju has scored 3,068 runs in 121 matches in the IPL. Sanju, who made his debut for the Rajasthan Royals in 2013, has been with the team for seven seasons. Rajasthan Royals director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara said the team intended to retain four players. Pace bowler Joffre Archer was also expected to be included in the squad. But Sangakkara said the number of players retained was three as uncertainty over his injury persisted.

After retaining good leadership, Rajasthan intends to prove its strength in the auction. All the three players retained by Rajasthan are expected to become the backbone of the team. He added that their excellent performance should lead the team forward. Rajasthan have retained Jose Boutiller, one of the best batsmen in Twenty20 cricket, for Rs 10 crore. He has scored a total of 1,968 runs in 65 IPL matches. The 31-year-old Butler has been a key presence for the Rajasthan Royals in recent seasons.

The 19-year-old successful Jaiswal is the second youngest player to retain a team even before the mega auction. Current Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson is ahead of Yashaswi in this regard. When Sanju was retained by Rajasthan in 2014, he was 19 years and 2 months old. Yashaswi was brought to the Rajasthan team for Rs 2.4 crore in the 2020 auction. He scored 249 runs in 10 matches in the 2021 IPL. The team retained Yashaswi for Rs 4 crore.
