Many people spend their childhood and adolescence growing up without a clear idea of what they want to learn and who they want to be in the future. Then God will appoint a teacher as a guide at the right time. Arjun Sreejith shares his memories of such a teacher through the line Gurusmriti. His favorite teacher Prof. Dr. Arjun says about Sunny Luke:
Oprah Winfrey’s words come to mind when thinking about Sunny sir. ”A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself” Just like carving a statue out of stone, a real mentor can bring out the dormant skills you don’t even know you have . It’s a blessing to have you in life. Enough can be said about Sunny sir who came in as a messenger to convince me of my abilities!
Life would have been different if he had not come as a volunteer teacher in 2017 while studying MSc Botany at BAM College. Sir taught molecular biology. We students were delighted to be in the class of a great scientist who made many contributions in the fields of medical genetics, oncology, tissue engineering and the theory of human evolution. Until then the teachers followed the method of following the syllabus exactly. We were amazed to hear sir Sunny talking about the possibilities and research areas of the subject beyond the examination’s point of view, and our fear towards the subject disappeared and we became more interested.

He adopted the western method of education. Sir was careful to develop the thoughts beyond studying the theory and writing the exam to the level of how to implement it. He was the only teacher who took classes entirely in English. It was that classroom that sparked my desire to do research.
The classes dealing with research experiences and the challenges faced while studying in America inspired many of us to follow such dreams. Closer to Sir was during my MPhil studies.
I shared with him my desire to do research in molecular biology and do my PhD abroad without much financial support. When he told me that if I excelled in my studies, I would be able to study in the United States with a scholarship. I feel very proud when I prepare for TOEFL test and American GRE exam under the guidance of sir. I feel blessed to have such a teacher. You are my inspiration. Thank you for being a great friend, teacher and mentor.
