‘SAT’ Establishes Thai House Center to Boost Thai Athletes’ Performance in Hangzhou Games
The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has inaugurated the Team Thailand Administration Center, also known as Thai House, at the 19th Asian Games. The opening ceremony took place on September 24 at Somerset Hotel IOC Hangzhou in Hangzhou, China. The facility will serve as a hub for sports science services, including a mobile clinic, catering to Thai athletes competing in a variety of disciplines.
The event saw the presence of Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, known as “Big Kong,” the Governor of SAT, who was joined by several distinguished guests, including Mr. Thana Chaiprasit, head of the Thai athletes, Gen. Ronnachai Manchusunthornkul, Deputy Secretary General of the Thai Olympic Committee, and Mr. Prompong Phruekthara, representative of the Budget Bureau, among others.
Dr. Kongsak emphasized the growing importance of sports science worldwide. The Thai government, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, SAT, and the Olympic Committee of Thailand have established a clear policy mandating the use of sports science by all sports associations, both prior to and during competitions. The Thai House Center, a regular fixture at sporting events, will provide comprehensive support to Thai athletes, facilitating their optimum preparedness with the application of sports science, as per General Prawit Wongsuwan’s vision, Chairman of the Thai Olympic Committee.
Notably, Mr. Prachum Bunthiam, Deputy Governor, Department of Sports Excellence and Sports Science, SAT, has been appointed as the chairman of the Thai House Center. The center will receive collaboration from experts across different organizations, delivering high-quality sports science services, pre, during, and post-competition, to enable Thai athletes to unleash their full potential. Mobile clinics stationed in various areas will cater to athletes’ needs, ensuring holistic support. Additionally, the monitoring department will address any competition-related issues while coordinating closely with the National Olympic Committee. Daily meetings will be conducted to assess progress and tackle challenges.
The Thai House Center stands as a comprehensive facility providing all-encompassing sports science services and equipped with state-of-the-art tools necessary for proper athlete care. The SAT Governor expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their cooperation, stating that this was the opportune moment to serve Thai athletes, given their extensive preparation and the substantial number of competitors, amounting to over 1,400 individuals, including officials. The mobile clinic will especially offer urgent medical assistance for combat sports, where unforeseen injuries may occur.
During the 19th Asian Games, which will be held from September 22 to October 7, the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) will deploy experts from various fields, such as sports physiology, sports psychology, sports nutrition, physical therapy, relaxation massage, air pressure massage, check treatment, and recovery capsule. They will provide scientific assistance to strengthen and support Thai athletes in this highly competitive event.
