TEHRAN (Yonhap News) Correspondent Lee Seung-min = At least 14 people, including rebel officials, were killed in an airstrike by Saudi Arabia-led Arab coalition forces in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a, Reuters reported on the 18th (local time).
The airstrike was carried out in response to the Yemeni rebel Houthis (self-proclaimed Ansarullah) attacking the international airport and oil facilities in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) the day before.
A Yemeni rebel-held Sanaa medical source said an airstrike in the early morning destroyed a building and killed at least 14 people.
Among the dead were a Yemeni rebel official and his family, the source said.
Al-Mashira, a satellite news channel run by the rebels, also reported that dozens of people were killed in the attack in Sana’a.
Saudi Arabia said it had attacked a Yemeni rebel base in Sana’a.
AFP news agency, citing local relatives, said 11 people were killed and a search operation was underway in the wreckage of the destroyed building.
The day before, Yemeni rebels used drones to attack the UAE’s Abu Dhabi International Airport and oil facilities.
UAE authorities said three workers were killed and six others injured while working at an oil facility in the attack by rebels.
The civil war in Yemen has escalated into a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia, which began in 2014.
As of the end of last year, the United Nations estimated that 377,000 people were directly or indirectly killed in Yemen’s civil war.
