School mother promises to end family famine; Powell, Power | Story of Powell

Mumbai: West Indies’ former captain and commentator Ian Bishop has described the heartbreaking life of Delhi’s West Indies star Rowman Powell after his stellar performance for the Delhi Capitals in the second match in a row in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ian Bishop reveals that Powell’s childhood was promised to his mother while in high school that it would alleviate the family’s hunger. He explained that Powell’s arrival in the IPL’s silver lining came from an environment of extreme poverty.

‘Would any of you have a 10 minute postponement? There is a video on YouTube explaining the life story of Rowman Powell. It’s a must see. “Then I know why a lot of people, including me, are happy that Powell got the chance to play in the IPL,” Bishop said.

‘Powell came from an extremely poor environment. He was a child who promised his mother when he was in secondary school that he would save his family from starvation when he was young. Powell is living that dream now. He has a great life, “said Bishop.

Powell was born in Old Harbor, Bannister County, Jamaica. The family, which includes his mother and younger sister, has only stories of hunger and poverty to remember at a young age. Powell’s life story is told in a documentary made in 2020 in connection with the Caribbean Premier League.

‘I was thinking of Powell scoring a century on Caribbean soil against a team that included Adil Rashid and Moin Ali. Powell batted at an average of 43 against India last February. There have been a lot of changes in Powell’s game. “Powell’s performance against pace bowlers is very good,” said Bishop.
